DEER REPELLENT FOR COMMERCIAL FARMING

DEER REPELLENT FOR COMMERCIAL FARMING

DEER REPELLENT FOR COMMERCIAL FARMINGDeer are great opportunists, eating well over 700 species of plants. But they lack the ability to properly digest grasses except young shoots. They tend to consume more food during the late spring, summer and fall therefore placing most of the crops that are cultivated in these periods at great risk of damage.

Large garden plots, commercial farming and vineyards suffer harm from deer attacks yearly and the larger agricultural operations such as commercial farming has an added difficulty of determining these attacks and putting an end to them. To keep deer away from your commercial farming land to ensure your profit is not jeopardized in any way, the following points would be helpful.

FENCING

Fencing, the creation of an impediment between the deer and your farm, is the most effective long-term method of keeping deer away and preventing them from doing damage to your crops.

Although quite a good number would not, but deer are able to jump a fence of up to ten feet high. It is therefore important to introduce a sort of challenge to the ones that would dare jump over the fence. This challenge may include constructing the fence in a way that it slants at an angle of say 30 degrees away from your crops, and constructing a double fence so they get trapped in between the fences when they attempt to jump. Electric fences are also effective in keeping them away but the charge should not be so much as to kill them – just a little to scare them away.

CROP ROTATION

Rotating the crops in a commercial farm can also be effective in keeping deer away. Growing those crops deer do not like to eat around the ones they love can serve as a means of protecting the ones they do love. Crops deer dislike include garlic, cloves, peppermint, lavender, etc.

This method might not be considered as effective as fencing because a hungry deer could pass right through a garlic plant to feast on your cotton plant, but it goes a long way in reducing the damage done to you crops by deer.

USING A SCENT AND FEAR BASED REPELLENT

Scent and fear based repellents are better than taste-based ones in keeping deer away from a large commercial farming field because they don’t give the deer any chance to cause damage at all. For a taste-based repellent to be effective, the deer has to first of all feed on the crop where the repellent has been applied and a hungry deer wouldn’t mind biting from every single crop until it doesn’t get that horrible taste anymore. But a fear and scent-based repellent would keep the deer away from crop even from afar. Some repellents give off scents that duplicate that of a dead animal which the deer interprets as the presence of a predator – and stays as far away as possible from the source of that scent.

Nature’s deer MACE is the right choice of deer repellent for commercial farming because it uses both scent and fear based technology to keep deer away, and doesn’t wash off during the rains. It also has no adverse effect on the health of your crops and requires only a sixty-day rotation.

University studies have concluded that putrescent egg, the active ingredient in Deer and Rabbit MACE is the most effective means of effectively repelling deer from crops.
