Deer mice can become very dangerous if it is not properly controlled. They are carriers of Hantavirus. The virus can be very harmful to human health as it causes Hantavirus Pulmonary Syndrome.
There are certain things which could be done to prevent the infestation of deer mice in an environment. One of the methods of preventing rodent from entering a house is by placing a rodent-proofing material at the entryway. Every single hole should be sealed irrespective of how little it is as this animal can pass through a very tiny hole. The less bushy and unkempt the yard is the lesser the chances of harboring deer mice.
Food packaged in material such as heavy plastic, glass or stainless steel is more safe and protected against deer mice than those contained in light plastic bags and paper boxes.
Deer mice would most likely be found in attics, crawl spaces or boxes packed away in the garage. To prevent the activity of deer mice in these areas always keep them neat and tidy therefore they would be easily seen when they come around.
