Snake Facts: Getting Rid of Snakes

There are a number of effective methods to rid one’s property of snakes. Like any animals, snakes are in search of creature comforts: safety, food and shelter. Removing these is the first step to removing the snakes. Snakes live and seek safety under rocks, debris, and woodpiles, so removing these types of objects from one’s yard is an important step. And snakes feed on mice and insects. To avoid attracting mice, it is a good idea to remove bird feeders and bird food, and to keep your grass trimmed short. Holes than can provide safety and shelter for either snakes or mice should also be filled in.

Barrier methods are generally ineffective against snakes, as they can slither through or under the tiniest gaps in fences and walls. The effort it takes to make a barrier against snakes is not time effective.
