How to Use

Before applying Dog MACE, first remove any urine, feces, or other animal scent from the target area; stubborn odors invite dogs back to the same spot. Shake the bottle well and spray on dry surfaces so the botanical oils bond quickly. For the first 7–10 days, treat once a day—generously and strategically—hitting “hot spots” such as corners, gate openings, mailboxes, planter boxes, lamp or fence posts, and any other favorite targets. This is the training period to discourage bad behaviors and create new habits. Apply Dog MACE once at the beginning of the week, and then once at the end for the following week. Breaking a dog's habit is key. Once a dog stops using the bathroom within an area, other dogs will follow suit. If several dogs use your lawn, apply every other day during the second week to break the habit. After this conditioning phase, spray at least once a week to maintain control.

For Indoor Use: Since it is a scent-based deterrent, the initial application will produce a strong odor that may be noticeable in treated areas. As the product dries, the scent will largely fade for humans, but dogs will still detect it. Some residual odors may linger, especially in enclosed spaces. To minimize the scent indoors, apply Dog MACE in well-ventilated areas and avoid over-saturating surfaces. Focus on areas where you want to prevent unwanted dog behavior, such as near furniture, doorways, or trash bins. Dog MACE is not a perimeter treatment, so avoid oversaturating grass or delicate plants. Before spraying on objects such as soft-bodied plants, fabrics, or painted surfaces, always test a small and unnoticeable area before heavy use. If the area is negatively affected by the spray, dilute it further or stop altogether. Concentrated formulas must be mixed with water before spraying—refer to the back label for exact ratios. Was a good deterrent for my dog pruning branches off of my shrubs, but it killed my grass when I used it to deter her from peeing in an area. I read other reviews by others that it worked well to deter peeing, but no one said it killed the grass.

I'm not 100% sold on the spray or granules at this time. It seems that we have to use nearly the whole bag or bottle before some effect takes place. Most of the neighborhood dogs don't seem to have a problem doing their business. Luckily, the majority of my neighbors pick up behind their animals

Sprayer nozzle for the gallon bottle was no good. Didn’t really work at all. Had to pour into another bottle that I had available, or just pour directly which was pretty inconvenient Didn’t use it enough and consistent enough to really see if the 3 gallons I bought worked well enough because of this.

DON'T waste your money or time!

I have three big dogs and two little dogs; one dog is a perpetual digger.
I am a senior, on a FIXED income, but stepped out in faith and spent the money of THREE products, spray, concentrated spray, pellets for outside, after I found 'the digger' in a hole where only his head was showing, and my sprinker pipe!!!
He is a 90 lb dog.
I followed the directions with the pellets onto the ground, AFTER I had painstakingly filled in that crater. I applied it thickly.
The other dogs have avoided it like the plague, but this morning, two more big holes started by same dumb dog.
I wish I could return it ALL now and get a refund.

Please keep in mind that Dog MACE is not an instant action product. We recommend applying the MACE daily for ten days, and then reducing application to once per week. We recommend using the Dog MACE in tandem with other training methods. Digging is a hard habit to break and Dog MACE alone usually won't stop the behavior; just get the dog the move to another area to dig instead. Dogs usually dig because they smell something underground (moles), they are bored or they are looking for an escape. Try to find the reason for the digging and alter that behavior while applying the MACE to keep the Dog away from the Already Dug out areas.

I tried to keep the neighborhood dogs from burning my strip of grass between the side walk and curb. Put down several applications with no improvement.
Even sprayed the base of the tree's that the male dogs pee on, did not stop them either. Seems like I wasted my money on this product.

I would say its 50/50

I think it CAN be very effective, but given the concentration requirements (8oz/gallon) and the high cost, it is cost prohibitive to be able to use it effectively on large areas. I am trying to treat a commercial sidewalk that is roughly 1000 SF (owners constantly letting their dogs poop on sidewalk and not cleaning up, even after I have spoken with them (yes, I have cameras)). I have done multiple treatments both before and after a pressure wash cleansing with Simple Green. I think the NM product is working, but a daily initial application (per instructions) and constant reapplication, its super expensive.

Dosen't work

I have a french bulldog that likes to take a poop in the same spot on the deck and I have been trying to figure out a way to deter her from doing that. So I bought natures mace and tried spraying it just like the directions said. Everyday I spray in the same spot and make sure its wet but it did not matter. The dog still pooped there.

To try to stop the dog from pooping in the same spot, we would recommend cleaning the area with a Live Enzyme cleaner daily and then spraying the MACE. You will want to do this every day for ten days. The enzymes will destroy the urine or poop odors so the dog will be less likely to return to the same area.
