What’s the Difference Between Granular and Liquid Deer & Rabbit MACE?

Deer & Rabbit MACE is available in both granular and liquid formulas to help gardeners, landscapers, farmers, and property owners protect plants, landscapes, and growing areas from deer and rabbit damage. Both formulas use a multi-sensory repellent approach based on scent, taste, and fear-based cues, helping create a treated area that deer and rabbits naturally want to avoid.

Choose Liquid Deer & Rabbit MACE when you need versatile, broad coverage across lawns, gardens, shrubs, vines, trees, flowers, or landscaped areas. Liquid formulas are available in concentrate and ready-to-use options. They are easy to apply with a manual or motorized sprayer, or through a sprinkler system, and are especially useful for taller vegetation, direct use on plant foliage, and blanket applications. Our liquid deer repellents generally treat more square footage and are more economical than our granular deer repellents, offering more value per square foot. For winter applications, liquid should be applied in temperatures above 38° Fahrenheit to help prevent freezing.

Choose Granular Deer & Rabbit MACE when you want long-lasting perimeter protection around lower-level plants, flower beds, rose bushes, gardens, shrubs, yards, walkways, and landscape borders. The granular formula is especially useful for plants under 3 feet tall, ground-level protection, and cold-weather applications where liquid spraying may be limited by freezing temperatures. The granules provide strong, targeted protection and improved weather resistance in key problem zones. In heavy snowfall or icy conditions, crush ice or snow before application.

For maximum protection, many customers use both formulas together: liquid spray for broad plant topical applications and landscape coverage, and granules around borders, beds, entry points, and high-pressure feeding areas. Apply and reapply as directed based on weather, season, and the level of deer or rabbit browsing pressure.

Application Tips:

This product is designed to repel mainly deer, moose, and elk. It is effective for rabbits, but if you are trying to repel mainly rabbits, try Rabbit MACE Rabbit Repellents.

On top of applying directly to plants, consider spraying bushes, shrubs, etc. along the perimeter of your yard to discourage deer from entering. In the beginning, apply more heavily and frequently to stop active browsing. Pay attention to bird feeders, as the seed may be attracting deer. Be aware of your neighbors potentially feeding deer. Deer may travel through your yard to access an open food source. When Deer and Rabbit MACE is properly applied, foraging deer and rabbits will move on to less stressful grounds. Protect your hard-earned landscape, trees, and crops from hungry deer and rabbits, before it’s too late.
