Weather Conditions

Yes, if there has been heavy rain or if you have been watering your lawn or plants a lot, the repellent should be reapplied. This also goes for times when your plants are growing quickly, because new growth should be protected. As well, if it rains 24 hours within your application time, the repellent should be reapplied, because it has not had time to set or stick to the treated area. Our spray-on repellents are manufactured with a duel-action sticking agent and are most effective when applied to dry plants, and during morning or evening when rain is not expected. The granular repellents, as well, may require re-application after rain.

Liquid repellents work well during cold winter months. They many need to be reapplied more frequently after heavy snow and melting or rain. Winter months are often wetter, and when deer are more likely to have a scarcity of food, so reapplication is important. Granular: When using a granular product, with heavy snow, break through the snow before application.

The repellent should be applied in above freezing temperatures, and allowed to dry during warmer hours. This is because freezing liquid of any kind on a plant can cause damage.

Tips for Spraying

Concentrated formulas contain step-by-step mixing instructions. All products may be mixed with water. Surfactant or additional additives are NOT required. There are a variety of sprayer types available at home improvement stores. The recommended type is a 50-mesh inline screen with a diaphragm pump. The pressure should be set to 150 to 250 psi for best results

Any type of liquid, from repellents to fertilizers, can clog a sprayer when it dries inside. To prevent this from happening, repellents should be thoroughly shaken prior to using to mix any ingredients that may have sunken. This will reduce the likelihood of clogs, but if your sprayer does get clogged, submerge and rinsing it with warm water until the flaky pieces of repellent are washed away and unclogging the sprayer. Sprayers should always be rinsed with warm water after each use.

Liquid repellents are effective immediately after spraying, because they repel by fear, taste and odor. However, it takes up to 12 hours for the sticking agents to properly dry and set in, so if it rains in that time after applying, a reapplication in recommended.
