Product Details

Squirrel MACE was designed to prevent squirrels from chewing, climbing, and gnawing on plants, bulbs, foundations, decking, outdoor furniture, flowerpots, and more! It was created to help protect a specific area(s) from squirrel damage. Our approach targets rodents' sense of taste and smell, driving critters away before they become destructive. Squirrel MACE is the ultimate anti-chew squirrel spray.

Squirrel MACE is a powerful, humane, and safe way to deter squirrels, chipmunks, and raccoons. It has also been shown to sometimes repel other mammals such as rabbits and skunks. Squirrel MACE incorporates a proprietary sticking agent proven to increase product duration and effectiveness. Our technology ensures adhesion to treated areas, protecting them longer. This technology binds the squirrel repellent to the areas being treated so that it will not easily wash off. We know the dangers of using toxic pesticides which is why we promote the use of natural-based products for healthy agriculture, households, and ecosystems. It is non-toxic, effective, and simple to use.

Frequently Asked Questions

Don't see the answer to your question? contact us!

  • While it may repel squirrels upon initial contact, don't expect results from just one or two applications. Repelling and training squirrels typically require repeated, consistent use. Stay at it and apply the product regularly. In general, the more product you use and the greater the coverage, the better the results you'll achieve.

  • Yes! Squirrel MACE is safe for pets, your family, and wildlife, (including squirrels), when used as directed. Our product is made from plant-based ingredients and contains no poisons. Please follow the directions and see precautionary statements before use.

  • Evenly spray Squirrel MACE on surfaces most accessible to squirrels, such as perches, poles, and the base of the feeder. While Squirrel MACE can help protect bird feeders, it may not be 100% effective, as a starving squirrel might still seek out the food, including birdseed.

To further deter squirrels, consider adding food-grade chili powder, capsaicin, or cayenne/habanero pepper to the birdseed. Birds cannot sense the spice, but squirrels can. You can do this yourself; just be sure to wear gloves and follow necessary precautions.

  • Yes! Squirrel MACE can be used to help with vehicle protection! It can also be applied to tractors and equipment cabins. Squirrel MACE can be used to protect wire harnesses and can save you hundreds of dollars in possible damage. Prior to applying the product check engine compartments and remove any nesting’s. Use an air compressor to remove any food or clutter. If you see any signs of rodents, thoroughly wash the area with soap and water to prevent them from returning.

For vehicle protection, including but not limited to, cars, trucks, tractors, boats, motor homes, etc. spray onto engine compartments, wheel wells, wirings, and anywhere else within reach. Spray around the outside of the vehicle to establish a perimeter protection as well. We do not recommend spraying directly on paint to prevent any damage to vehicles due to incompatibility with our product.

  • Squirrel MACE works best as a deterrent to discourage squirrels from entering, nesting, or returning. Apply it around the roofline, eaves, gutters, vents, tree limbs near the house, possible access points, and other areas squirrels frequent. It will not make squirrels already living inside a structure leave.

If a mother squirrel has a litter inside, no repellent—including Squirrel MACE—will reliably convince her to abandon her young; her instinct to protect them outweighs any taste or smell aversion. Wildlife control experts recommend waiting until the young can leave with her, then using a one-way exclusion door to allow squirrels to exit while preventing re-entry. Once the attic is confirmed empty, the entry point can be sealed. If you suspect an active nest or young squirrels are present, consider contacting a wildlife control professional before sealing entry points. Once squirrels are gone, apply Squirrel MACE around former entry points and other vulnerable areas to help discourage them from returning.

Nature's MACE product being used outdoors

How to Use

Shake well before each use. Apply daily for the first 7 days. Squirrel’s habits are difficult to break so initial applications should be frequent and heavy. Spray around and directly on areas squirrels are chewing or frequenting. To break a pattern of habitual behavior, the spray may need to be applied more frequently. As animals' behavior changes, application frequency may be reduced. Re-apply weekly. Repeat applications as necessary or for maintenance. Reapply after heavy rainfall. Squirrel MACE also works as a flower bulb protection spray. Cover the bulbs in a light coating of repellent and let sit for 15 minutes. Let dry and replant.

Before spraying on objects such as outdoor furniture, painted surfaces, or decking, always test a small area for staining acceptability. Do not apply directly on ornamental, soft-bodied plants. Some plants may be too delicate for this spray. Instead, spray the flowerpot or surrounding soil. Avoid heavy spraying of plants and grass. For the concentrates, this product requires mixing with water in a lawn or garden application sprayer. See the back label for mixing ratios. Nature’s MACE™ animal repellents are designed for use around homes, gardens, properties, etc. Do not spray directly at or onto animals. The product is only effective when used as directed.

Results vary widely with this squirrel repellent. While many customers report success keeping squirrels away from bird feeders, gardens, and property when applied consistently, others find it completely ineffective. Success appears to depend on proper application, consistent reapplication (especially after rain), and squirrel persistence levels. Common complaints include faulty spray bottles and short-lasting effectiveness.

  • This is the only product that works for us. No sign of rodents.
  • Christmas Lights Saved. Since applying, we have had ZERO issues with squirrels.
  • Been using this for years to keep squirrels off bird feeders... Works great!

This does not work

This does not work. After you spray it, the squirrels might stay away from it for about two hours, but they come right back. I’ve literally been spraying it around my birdfeeders and the squirrels came right in the area where I was spraying and they got sprayed in the face and it did not do anything. On the good note, though it won’t harm you or any of your birds, not even the squirrels not that I want to bring harm to the squirrels, but to keep them away from my birdfeeders yes, because I have like seven of them that come and destroy my birdfeeders and I’ve done everything I can possibly think of to keep the squirrels away. I was really hoping this would work. I even have the squirrels their own feeder that I fill every morning away from my birdfeeders and they will destroy my birdfeeders and then go and eat their food also. So save your money and do not buy this product.

Hi Christie, thank you for sharing your experience. We're sorry to hear the product didn't meet your expectations. Squirrel behavior can vary, and they are hard to repel, especially around bird feeders. Please reach out to customer service. We are always happy to honor our satisfaction guarantee.

Works for about 2 hours

Works for about as long as it takes the spray to dry, and the squirrels are right back up there again. This photo was taken after I had saturated the entire pole, and the top of the bird feeder - twice...

Squirrel Mace

Squirrel Mace is good, it definitely helps. I would have given 5 stars but the shipping is the problem with damaged sprayer, not Nature's Mace fault & Nature's Mace sent a new one but the sprayer was broken again. BUT Nature's Mace gave me a partial refund to buy a sprayer.

Thank you for your review, Walter. We are glad to hear that Squirrel MACE is working well for you and helping keep squirrels under control. We truly appreciate your patience while we worked through the sprayer issue. We are happy we could find a solution that worked for you. Your support means a lot to us, and we are grateful to have you as a valued customer.

Doesn't work on my squirrels

I purchased Squirrel Mace will great hope that something finally would work. I applied it to my feeders daily for 2+ weeks. Sadly, the squirrels are still around. I don't know if it works on some species but not others but we're "infested" with the gray squirrels here in Cleveland Ohio.

FAULTY PUMP

I don’t know if it’s a design issue or I’m just unlucky. I ordered a 1 gallon jug with a pump and the pump didn’t work. I returned it and my second jug pump also didn’t work. Frustrating !!

Hi Ken,
We understand your frustration and apologize for the faulty sprayers. We are in the process of upgrading our supplier so this will not be in an issue in the near future. In the meantime please reach out to customer service and we are always happy to send a replacment.

Works okay

Every year the squirrels would attack my Christmas lights that I put on the oak trees. Spraying with this does help but the squirrels would still rip out lights on the oaks thinking they are nuts even though I would double the recommended concentration and spray every day. It seems that here in Florida, the squirrels are very active and I was fighting a losing battle. Last year I wrapped every light on the oaks with gorilla tape and also spray. Since we started doing that, the squirrels don't rip the lights out so it did take a combination of both to finally get them not to rip out the lights. With that said, this works fine by itself on any of my trees that are not nut producing oaks.

Armida’s blues gone away

This is the only product that works for us. I have apples, pomegranates growing, and squirrels started taking my fruit. I sprayed bottom of truck of tree so they can smell it and carry sent on there feet for 3 days. I’m sorting on the limbs that have fruit, and now there’s no sign of rodents. I will spray again when needed.

Not happy with it

I swear the squirrels like it I have been spraying around and on the poles of my bird feeders they stop and sniff for a minute and go right up the pole or into my flower pots. I soak the ground and the poles trying to deter them

Hi Connie,
We are sorry to hear that you are not seeing optimal results. Sometimes the squirrels are hard to deter. Please consider applying the MACE every day for ten days and covering lots of area. This is to help establish the intial boundary. Aften ten days you can reduce application to weekly or even biweekly. Please also note the MACE will need to be reapplied after it rains.

This stuff works!!

I had such an issue with squirrels getting in my bird feeders and scarfing down all the seed. Found this product when I was picking up more Deer Mace at my local garden center. I filled my feeders and hung them in tree with their baffles. Sprayed the branch that supported all 5 feeders plus the tops of the baffles. Did not have a problem with them this past winter. We do have an issue with them getting in our attic I believe we are going to try it up there to see if it works just as well. Thanks for a great product!

A Little Disappointed

A few years ago when we first started using the Squirrel MACE repellent, it seemed to work very well keeping the squirrels off of our deck. However, last summer and so far this year, it appears to lose its potency very quickly and the squirrels are right back on the deck bannisters like nothing is there. This is true when there has been no rain since the application.

Time will tell

I just got the squirrel mace to keep the critters out of my strawberries. I have applied it twice so far and it appears to be working. However, I can't give it 5 stars because the spray bottle broke on the second pull of the handle. It did not even get to spray any product. I had to move the spray into my own spray bottle. I suggest they spend an extra dime and get a decent bottle. I will update or add a review once I see if it keeps the squirrels away.

Christmas Lights Saved

Here in forested MN we have a vibrant squirrel population. It turns out when preparing for winter, the squirrels mistook our Christmas lights for food and chewed through multiple wires. Enter Squirrel Mace!! Since applying a couple of weeks ago (and re-applying once), we have had ZERO issues with squirrels and our lights. We opted for the concentrate to control strength. The mace applies nicely with a spray bottle and clings/freezes to the lights. So far, very satisfied customer!

Hi Robert,
Thank you for your review. I was not aware of the damage to your order. I am sorry that a replacement was not sent but UPS does not proactively notify us of the damages. I have ordered your replacement Squirrel MACE to be shipped right away!

Works okay

I have been using squirrel mace for a few years now on my Christmas lights that I put on my oak tree. The squirrels apparently think the lights are nuts and cut the wire to get to them. I have to spray almost every day (even if it does not rain) in order to avoid losing lights so while it "works", it does take constant diligence to be effective.

Too much rain!

Have not received the effect I anticipated. Possibly it is due to the amount of rain we have had for weeks on end. Everyday usually in mid to late afternoon we are getting an enormous amount of rain. Yesterday we had the usual flood in the afternoon and then it returned very late in the day and rained most of the night.
Hopefully the rains will decrease and I can then find out if your product is effective.

Squirrel Mace Spray is a terrific product!

The Squirrel Mace Spray works. Applied in on the wall of my apartment patio and pots for 8 days and resprayed after 6 days, and behold the destructive squirrel is no longer (1) digging up my lobelia and other potted plants and (2) entering my ‘garden’ space and knocking over pots. Am impressed so far!!

Nature's MACE

We recommend spraying the soil, tree, and greenery but only light mist of the fruit. Rinse well before consuming as it may change the flavor.
