Repel Cat from Vegetable Garden

Repel Cat from Vegetable Garden You may be wandering what business a cat has in a vegetable garden. Well, truth is – there is a lot. First, the domestic cat you keep at home may out of curiosity want to explore her environment a little. That’s natural of them – cats are a curious set of critters. This may not sound like much of a problem, but when the damage they cause gives you a reason to think twice.

But, when you will have real troubles is when stray cats – homeless cat as some would call them – take over your garden. The damage could be cataclysmic. So, to prevent these critters from destroying your precious garden, deploying effective repellent technique is paramount.

Here are some of them:

  1. Fencing

Though old fashioned, fencing still works against cats. Basically, what a fence does is to keep out an uninvited guest, and those stray cats are the uninvited guest this time. Don’t underestimate those cats; they could easily jump or climb over a low level fence at the snap of the finger. So, erect a fence tall enough to deter a motivated stray cat from jumping over.

  1. Sound repellent

Sudden, loud noise make not just cats but any other intruding critter scurry away to safety. With a little bit of ingenuity, you can set of a noise repellent using readily available material. Want of ideas? Get some empty cans and string them together. Ensure there are enough cans to do the magic. Then hang the strung cans on the perimeter of your garden. That way, any stray cat that attempts to intrude will first be greeted by the cranking cans. The drawback with this technique is that with time the cat may get used to the sound. So, it makes sense to combine other technique.

In place of strung cans, use motion actuated ultrasound devices. Ultrasound, though inaudible to the human ear, discomfits cats greatly. Of course, this device doesn’t come cheap, but the investment is worth it.

  1. Use Humane Traps

While the use of lethal traps against animals is prohibited in most of the States in the US, use some counties and states permit the use of humane traps. Humane traps, basically, are traps that capture an intruding critter without inflicting any sort of harm to it. If the use of humane traps is permitted where you live, go purchase one from any pet store around.

  1. Clean up Your Garden

If there is nothing attracting them to the garden, chances are they will stay away completely. Rodents, left over meals, rubbishes and even broken toys are some attractants that get the attention of cats. If these items are littered all around your vegetable garden, go get cleaned up, and ensure they never find their way back to your garden again.

  1. Commercial Repellents

There are several brands of cat repellents in the market today. While some work, others are a complete fluff. So, instead of wasting your time and money trying to see which would work best, go for Cat Mace. Produced by Nature Mace, Cat Mace is made using non-toxic materials, making it safe. It is also pocket friendly, too.
