What is Deer Tick?

Deer tick is also mistakenly commonly as the other tick species. Just like other ticks, the bodies of deer ticks are flattened. These pest has 8 legs when they reach adulthood but for larvae stage only six legs are present. On the other hand, female deer tick only has approximately three – five millimeters and does not have the color with brown and red. Female ticks are also engorged with blood meal and may reach up to 10 mm long.

The color of deer tick may also change from brown to rust or red especially after feeding. When they feed in blood, the body substantially expands. As a matter of fact, in most cases, deer tick is just the same size of a usual American dog tick.

Habitat of Deer Tick

Although deer tick is very common in several locations, they are common in areas wherein white-tailed deer are living. This is the best spot for these nasty pests to thrive and multiply.
