When in search of food, protection or water, house mice often find their ways into the homes of humans. Factors like old age, starvation and electrocution can get them killed when they are in.

When they die, house mice do give off an offensive odor. They are most times trapped behind walls, cabinets and refrigerators. It is quite difficult to access them when they die behind walls. When this happen, the best thing a homeowner can do is to eliminate the offensive odor instead of pulling out the dead mouse.

Another sign that a mouse has died in a home is when large green or blue flies, with metallic texture gather in their numbers. To locate the dead mouse, the homeowner will have to follow the direction of the flies.

To prevent the outbreak of infection, it is advised that a homeowner wear protective gloves when picking up feces dropped by house mice. Also, before a dead mouse is removed, disinfectants should be sprayed at the spot where it died. After placing the dead mouse in a trash bag, ensure that the bag is properly disposed of.
